My work activity deals with 100+PC’s running on IE. This day job environment has a very loyal Windows mindset crowd. I’m also a Mozilla and a Mac user..guess since Mosaic, in those days was the only browser around. I also happen to live just a few miles from the Redmond campus so i should support the big M..and i do! Office etc. It’s just that I get less PC related frustrations when i’m not around IE/Windows. I may be using a “free” Facebook account…so I need to upgrade to a “Pro” no ad account for $20. a year. Sounds familiar?….is this scenario from the past or will this be a recurring one. Check out New Media Age cover story.

Take one major global recession. Add slashed and gutted media and marketing budgets. Pour in a generous dose of traditional marketers groping for clients in a digital world. Finally, add social media marketing, for which both the cost and barrier-to-entry is near zero. Blend gently and presto — social media carpetbaggers, in all flavors and colors of the rainbow. Video: Laptop Hunters $1000 – Lauren Gets an HP Pavilion
My 17 year old son’s birthday wish was a brand new laptop. Family and friends gave him cash for his birthday. $1000. total, towards fulfilling his wish.
Fast forward 8 weeks and still no laptop. I suggested that 1K can buy a nice Dell laptop that will Facebook, Hulu, GMail, YouTube and Firefox his needs. “No, dad, I’ll wait, I’m saving another $500. to get a unibody Macbook. WHA????? He has NEVER seen the new “MS I’m not cool” ad so……I commanded the kid to BUY an HP PAVILLION for $799 plus tax!
Available with 17.3″ (diagonal) display with 16:9 ratio which is perfect for HD movies. Featuring Moonlight White or Espresso Black colors with premium liquid metallic imprint patterns, HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection, magical chrome media buttons, lighted logo, media docking port, remote control, not cool Ballmer t-shirt!! Use the extra $$ to buy a large HD display.
I work with PC,s, I help people use their Compaq, Sony, Dell etc. on a daily basis. I own a Dell laptop running XP, Firefox and Gmail. I have been a MacUser since the 80’s. My first Mac was a black and white Classic which I paid $1300. at the University MacStore. I own several Mac models, some I currently use, and others I use as furniture.
The Mac vs. PC deal is very old. It’s all playing on your fears. Mac users who never use/owned a Windows PC and PC users who has never used/owned a Mac are the biggest critics. Stick shift or automatic, It’s always a good thing to know both.
BTW, next week, I’m giving my son another $100. to help fund his laptop and after he saw the “I’m not cool commercial”, he is even more determined to get a Mac.
OOps!
I’m A PC as in PAY CUT.

Unhappy contract workers in Redmond.
